WhatsApp: +86 18203695377Next Generation Iron Ore Technology and Products Minnesota's Mesabi Iron Range has long served the domestic steel industry with iron ore. By the end of WWII, all of the lean ore (unprocessed, directship) was mined out. A University of Minnesota researcher developed the process for turning lowgrade ore (taconite) into pellets that could replace the lean ore in blast furnaces.

WhatsApp: +86 18203695377Though taconite was identified as an ironbearing rock on the Iron Ranges of northern Minnesota long before the 1950s, it wasn't until then that it was extracted, processed, and shipped to steel mills on the Great Lakes. As natural ore reserves diminished, taconite became an alternative source of iron that allowed the Iron Range to continue mining operations in a changing global economy.

WhatsApp: +86 18203695377How is taconite made? Taconite pellets are made from taconite ore (cherty or jaspery rock with a high iron content). To make these pellets, the hard taconite ore is blasted and then ground down with water to a fine powder. The fine iron rich particles, mostly of magnetite are extracted from the powder by use of magnetism.
